The Two trees are mustard and olive. The mustard tree represents full-grown faith and olive trees remind us of the Atonement. The roots of both wrap around a monogram containing the letters IHS which are the first three letters of Jesus in Greek.
The whole shield is made of two overlapping circles creating a Vesica Pisces in the center. This symbol represents the intersection of the spiritual and temporal spheres, and was used to create a fish as one of the first Christian symbols.
The Vesica Pisces combined with the monogram and roots of the tree create the "eye of faith" with Jesus at its center.
The other four symbols represent different aspects of faith: faith as an anchor, which contains a cross and an ankh; faith as a compass, shown as a star shaped compass rose meant to play the dual role of compass and north star; the fearlessness of the faithful, shown in the ghanan symbol meaning that one neeed fear "nothing but God" encompassing the fearlessness of the faithful and the omnipotence of God; and faith as a power sown in the symbol of a dome surrounded by interlocking squares representing the Melchizedek Priesthood, reminding us that Priesthood and miracles work by faith.
The border of the shield is made of interlocking circles with spheres inside each and the two halves are joined with the Celtic trinity knot. this is meant to reinforce the concept of overlapping spheres as well as suggest that our faith is built on truths learned line apon line and precept on precept and that the Godhead is an integral part of that process.
The ecclectic nature of the symbols is purposeful reminding us that there is a great deal of common ground in all cultures and creeds and that truth can be found in many places.
